Good location and efficient friendly staff
The location is superb for a walking holiday and the room was clean and comfortable. Would definitely stay there again.
A 'walkers' menu, with substantial portions at a reasonable price, would make this hotel perfect.
Peaceful, good views, good food.
The position of the hotel and the views were stunning.
The whole hotel needs refurbishment - the decor is tired and the soft furnishings are tatty! Breakfast was not served till 8am - far too late if on business.
Meals were of excellent standard, and plentiful. All staff members were friendly and informative. Rooms have been refurbished since our last visit (some time ago) which was a welcome bonus. The position is worderful, with great views of the valley and the hills.
Sitting by the window for breakfast was cold due to a draft coming through the windows. Moving to a different table resolved this, and this would not be a problem in the warmer months. Free WiFi was a very poor signal strength in the room we had. As it is free, it can't really be complained about though.
The comfort and very pleasant efficient staff
location - views from bedroom window.Lots of hot water.Very attentive and polite staff.
nowhere to sit quietly. Noisy group came into lounge. Also same noisy group disrupted quiet breakfast tlime
The views from the breakfast/dining room were very good and the breakfast itself was OK. The staff were friendly and helpful.
The bathroom was a great disappointment. Whilst large and spotlessly clean, there was only a small bath and a hand-held shower. No chance of a soak or a long hot shower. Not at all what I wanted after a long days walking.
Some of the staff were very helpfull
my room was too hot. it was dreary and the furniture was odd & unmatched. The carpet had seen better days. The beds were lumpy and the shower was the smallest space possible, which was not necessary as the bathroom was large.
We were delighted with our room as the view was amazing..... also the views from the dining room are outstanding ... our evening meal was delicious, compliments to the cheff - art on a plate!
We found the heat in the hallways almost unbearable - Maybe turn the temperature down a tad, or install radiator valves...
Comfortable bed after doing the Long Mynd Hike during the previous day/night. Also relaxing chairs in bar area.
On 3 of the 4 nights we stayed at the hotel we were unable to book dinner at a time convenient to us because of block bookings by large groups. On these nights we had to eat in local restaurants which we would have preferred not to do.
Stunning views from bedrooms and dining room. Surrounding countryside beautiful. Wonderful well maintained outside swimming pool - really warm despite cool weather.Excellent breakfast. Very relaxing peaceful atmosphere
No, but I stayed at this hotel 20 years ago and it was fabulous - I felt coming back that in some respects it hadn't moved on from then and needed money spent on it to update certain things - double glazing in bedroom windows for example, kettle in room needed replacing as smelled fusty. But overall a lovely place to stay
Good location for walking, seeing Shropshire. Our room was comfortable, the breakfasts good. Despite some critical website comments about room locations, our room was perfectly acceptable and value for money.
The hotel has a sense of faded grandeur. The opportunity for evening meals in-house would have been welcome.
We found it an ideal location to explore the Shropshire Hills
